Game 1, Mavericks '09-10 vs the Washington Wizards

this blog is about the Dallas Mavericks.

AS WE ALL KNOW THE SEASON HAS STARTED. we have the 2009-2010 NBA basketball season upon us. here it is, it is upon us. and I, for one, am excited.

THE DALLAS MAVERICKS. the m'f'n Dallas Mavericks. this is what we have and this is where it starts.

the Dallas Mavericks are The Shit. the Dallas Mavericks are my team. I want them to win all this shit. the whole thing. and I will hope the Lakers and Celtics do not.

sportcasters in general are reporting things. they all have their opinions on one thing or another. they make predictions and whatnot but we have the whole NBA and we can hope that they are wrong.

ok, let's zoom in for a moment and emphasize that tonight was Game 1 of the 09-10 Mavericks season. they played the Washington Wizards and lost. the Mavericks lost 100-91 or whatever, something close to that.

and so - as they say, it is what it is. I think primarily - the Wizards were fucking On. they were so On. they had Hot Hands. they were making shots. they had Gilbert Arenas and they just made basket after basket and they made it look easy. they were faster and had a rhythm that fed their confidence. but in a way it was a close game. the Mavericks kept it close for the whole game, fighting for the win. anyway, I like the look of the team and there's some kinks to work out, but it can happen. Shawn Marion is obviously a key factor. he had an off night but who cares, the guy is checking things out getting in a rhythm with the team. it's a long season, this is the time to see how things feel and adapt. also new to the team is Drew Gooden, also a big deal. Gooden is a veteran coming from a handful of other teams, supposedly being traded more than usual. I think he played for the Spurs and maybe the Cavaliers. I could look it up but whatever I am not a sports writer. anyway, Gooden was signed to provide Defense and shows much promise. I like Gooden so far, he's got a fire under him. I think he's ready to win some games with this team. also hanging around our core 5 are Humphries, Ross, Singleton and our hero JJ Barea.

JJ Barea is The Shit. that dude is short and he plays basketball like crazy. he makes baskets. he is very quick and smart and brings energy every time he comes on the court. JJ Barea is The Man. and for this game against the Wizards he definitely made is presence known. all in all, the Mavericks are still checking things out and the Wizards came ready to play. and it was a fairly even game with the better team getting the win.

Mavericks 2009-2010 season starts today.

Dirk looks awesome and had 30+ points. Jason Terry was around but he didn't break out. Dampier was in the game and had some fire. it was good to see him. Jason Kidd looked like a champ and ran the team like a force as usual. the team is now a fairly even balance between veteran toughness and some high-energy younger players. Coach Rick Carlisle has the room to give them some time on the court, like Kris Humphries and Quinton Ross. who is Quinton Ross? I don't know. stay tuned. it's a mixed bag.

but I like Shawn Marion. if they can feel it out and get this game popping then they can get on a tear and start smashing teams all in a row. get the energy up, get the whole thing moving. Dallas can make a move this season and push through it.

Game 1 was fine, secondarily, Game 2 is on Friday against the Lakers. also this evening, the Lakers beat the LA Clippers which is kind of a no-brainer. the only surprising thing is that the Clippers managed to only lose by 7. I think the Lakers kind of laid back on it. I didn't see the game. although the amount is very high, I can only watch so much basketball, and tonight's priority was the Mavericks, followed by the Houston/Portland game, in which the Rockets got mashed and the Monoliths of the East, the Celtics Versus the Cleveland Cavaliers, with the Monolithic Shaquille O'Neal. is that game interesting? I don't know. I already saw the mess that was the Suns+Shaq and frankly this is way more boring. anyway, the Celtics now have Rasheed Wallace which I only mention for historical context because I don't really care about it and the Celtics beat the Cavaliers handily, 95-89.

here we go NBA 09-10. GO MAVERICKS. let's enjoy some basketball.
